Some people believe activities at the bottom of the tank will cause dropeyes but I say this is very subjective. To me dropeyes is caused by the activities outside the tank. Example: I saw a red tail gold with drop eyes at one restoran, I observe that infront of the tank has a round table and some flies were on the table. The fish keep looking at the flies as fly is being one of thier food(insect) And this caused both the eye droping.
I have live shrimps in my tank for arowana but I don't have dropeye problem. But some experts said that they came across cases of dropeyes for this case. So, I say this is very subjective.
