In Response To: Big Als in Vancouver is killing aros!!!!! (theo)
Date: Saturday, 13 March 2004, at 2:29 a.m.
: I went by Big Als in Richmond (near Vancouver) here
: in Canada to find they had put 4 four inch green
: aros in a tank with 2 seven inch RTG's and 1 foot
: long gold crossback. The green aros will all be
: dead within two days, tops. Two of them are now
: missing tails (completely), while the other two
: are so beaten up they look like hamburger. When I
: complained to a store worker he told me he was
: just following orders to keep them all together.
: When I complained to a manager, he told me that
: the fish would "figure it out within a
: week" and that it was ok because they were
: going to add more aros soon!!!! When I told him
: that RTG's are the most agressive variety and
: should not be mixed with smaller greens he was
: silent. This tells me that Big Al's knows next to
: nothing about their asian aros. They don't seem
: to care that they are killing them. As far as I
: am concerned they are a disgrace to the hobby and
: should be boycotted in Vancouver at least for
: their horrible treatment of their aros. Thanks
: for letting me vent my anger.hey steven maybe you should give all the facts befor you "vent" you forgot to mention that the fish were put in a tank 300 gallons large, also the owner of the store has about 20 years experience professionally in the hobby. this situation was unfortunate, the store took a calculated risk and unfortunatly it did not workout, but that's not to say that it can't and hasn't in the past. for instance we have a few customers in particular that house many different species of arowana in the same tank and some smaller then the one we were using, that's not to say that just anyone should try to mix aro's, tank size is important aswell as the experience of the keeper. steven, have you seen the price of the arowana's? why do you think we would purposely want to harm them in anyway? why? what about that is logical to you? also i am the livestock manager of the richmond location and i would never think that is "o.k." if these fish don't make it cause we have more coming in. come on steven they cost from 350 to 8000 dollars, what about that is "o.k."? how often do you go to work and destroy over 15000 dollars worth of property or good's and you and you boss think it is "o.k."? i think whoever you talked to is being mis quoted. also steven you are right we did have more aro's coming in and we had to make space, that's why we gave it a shot in the 300 gallon instead of some of the smaller tanks. i would say walk a mile in my shoes. i know how hard i work to make everyone's visit to big al's a pleasent experience, don't believe me? take a look at my shoes sometime that i have to replace on an almost bi-monty basis from running around the store. in closing steven, to you i say get all the fact's and give all the fact's and if not us who in the city do find take's better care for their fish. i know how hard my employee's and myself work to make the store run, and to be honest with you i don't think you will find staff at other store's with the same dedication we have. thank you for letting me vent.
