Hi Jimmy,
I must say it's a good try except may be for one small mistake that you may need to take note, you may be in front the Aro for 2 hours, but any sudden movement will still scare the Aro.
Yes, sit in front of the tank and watching it swims around is different from slept in front of the tank. When you sit and watch the Aro swim in front of the Aro, you will tends to move a little and follow it when swim from one side to another. This little movement will slowly be more familar with your Aro. But if you had slept in front of the tank, no movement but then suddenly stand up, I think not only Aro will be scared, some people around you might get scared too.

Did you add some amount of blackwater? It will help to calm the Aro a little.
As long as your face is not touching the tank glass, any distant from there is acceptable. Aro have very sharp vision, they can see you from far.
It's OK to place the tank in high human taffic areas due to space limitation, just that do take a little care when moving in front of the tank, always try to rememeber, no sudden drastic movement near the tank.
Aro may be King of Aquarium and very hardy fish, majestic and mighty in looks, but they are actually a shy fish and timid fish.
