Hi Lewis,
I love these proud looking fish too. I like their aggressiveness hunting for prey but I find it cruel sometimes. To train them taking pellets, you have to be patience. Depending on each character, some arowana can starve for few weeks before taking pellets. You can try adding other tankmates take that pellet, in one way motivating arowana to accept pellets as their only food source. Once arowana accept pellets, never feed them live food again. Younger arowana are easier to train. I’m sorry that I not sure know how much gold arowana cost in CA. Perhaps, anyone in state can answer?? Hope you can pursue the arowana you want
