losing scales--PLEASE HELP!

My silver aro has lost a few scales over the last day. Fish shop says no problem since he seems otherwise healthy. I'm worried this is a bad sign though. I did a 30% water change and added slime coat. Anything else I can do? I'm afraid to change the water more often than 1per week because he gets so jumpy and angry. Thanks for any help
